Hello from Peter and Rosie Saul, and welcome to Riviera Alpacas. We decided to farm alpacas when we moved to our 100-acre property in Lindenow South, 20km from Bairnsdale in East Gippsland in March 2006. We started with a conventional flock of merino sheep, but recognised the value of alpacas, when utilized as protectors. Our first two alpacas were purchased to protect the young lambs. Their worth was immediate, as unlike our neighbours, we lost no lambs to foxes. This, and their wonderful soft fleece, quiet temperament, and excellent intelligence, encouraged us to embark upon a breeding programme specializing in top class genetics.
Having purchased exceptional genetics in our initial animals, we will continue to keep high quality breeding paramount. Almost immediately we have discovered how easy these gentle animals are to care for, and how little impact they have on their environment, and what beautiful soft fleece they produce. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, where we are happy to share with you our experience of raising alpacas with excellent genetics to produce ultra fine fleece, Riviera Alpacas.s foremost objective.
